EPS & the environment

The best packaging is made of 98% air. No wonder it is so sustainable.

Corporate sustainability targets mean that even the most tried and tested material must stand up to environmental scrutiny. Lifecycle analysis show how EPS can meet legislative requirements and voluntary corporate CSR commitments. That is why we provide a complete overview of how airpop® stacks up against the 4Rs - reduce, reuse, recycle and recover, so that decisions on the right packaging material are fact-based and not subject to misperceptions.

Because EPS® is so light – it saves immense amounts of fuel during transportation and therefore reduces climate-damaging CO2 emissions. But that’s not all: with its extraordinary insulation EPS® contributes towards valuable energy saving especially for refrigerators or for whole buildings.

In particular, it means less heating in the winter and less cooling in the summer, in other words, the total amount of energy that needs to be produced, is much less, therefore less CO2. EPS® not only ensures a good climate in homes, but also in the atmosphere. EPS® only contains 2 % polystyrene and 98% pure air. That is great for the environment because it saves valuable raw materials and is ideal for logistic specialists. They do not use unnecessary heavy packages around the place, which not only slows down its vehicles, but it also drives consumption upwards.

So EPS® is not only light on the purse strings and the nerves, but also on the environment. Less consumption is used during transportation but namely there is less CO2 in the atmosphere.
